I have made a how to video for camera angles. This explains how you can construct certain camera angles. I showed these visually as well as explaining the reason you use the shots.
I got to the final product by firstly writing a bullet point plan for my how to video which then followed by some storyboards and scripts. Once the pre production was finished i started the production which was filming. I decided to film different camera angles using caitlin. I got all 9 shots and started the post production, which is editing. I decided i wanted to edit in the software Adobe After Effects as its the program I'm most comfortable with. I put all my clips in order, this is when i found out i has filmed my extreme close up in portrait instead of landscape. Through the half-term i recorded my sound. I had a blue snowball microphone that i connected to my laptop, then i read out my script and edited in Adobe Audition. I dragged my voice overs into After Effects and lined them up in the right order. A couple weeks later i went out to film again but with Heather and Caitlin. I reshot a couple of my scenes so i also had more of a variety. With this variety it allowed me to have two examples for some shots in my video, it also allowed more creativity in making my video unique with transitions. Next i went on bensound to download my background music to add into After Effects. This completed the how to video so i exported it.
This was not as challenging as i expected, the only thing that held me back a lot was time management. I struggled with finding the time to complete my tasks and to not leave it all to the last minute. I also struggled with recording the sound, it was my least favourite part of the production. I believe this was not as challenging since i completed Media Studies and Film Studies coursework were i chose the TV opening and short film options in sixth form.
If i was to do it again i would choose a different interpretation and film myself talking the audience through it. I watched a 'how to camera angles' video on youtube which made me question the way i was creating my own. Having someone talk you through the video is more engaging and more straight forward since the setting and person does not change only the camera angle. I was going to record s how to video like this, but i lost my voice and lost the ability to talk the audience through each angle.
I need to improve on sound. When recording i don't think i had a very good set up as you can still hear clicking noises while I'm speaking that was not cancelled by the pop filter. Having better sound will allow me to maintain a more professional quality to my video. Next time i might use a different sound equipment or edit in a software that has more advancements for voice overs like premiere pro. My script writing could also be improved as its very repetitive. This could bore the viewers quickly but could also have the opposite affect. Sometimes keeping it simple and being slightly receptive in words makes it's easier to follow for all age groups making a wider target audience.
I can make my next project even better by staying on track with my production plan meaning i have more time to finish each bit in my project. This will stop my work from being rushed instead it will be better quality overall. I will also focus on the aspects of the media course I'm not so strong in to improve them. This way i have an equal level in all sections. For example: sound, writing, directing and filming. When using sound i could possibly use a lapel microphone since this seemed to pick up Joanna's sound really well. I could also use tripods for steadier filming or even use cameras instead of my phone to have a higher quality video. The practice with using the camera would be helpful as well.
I really enjoyed the editing for my how to video as well as adding the captions and effects in. I used a blur by word effect on the text to let the captions come in word by word. I also added a drop shadow so you could read the words clearly. I had my dad watch the video to tell me if he could clearly read everything. He told me to lower the drop shadow so the 15 changed to a 10 for the distance. I masked out the camera logo so the square image didn't show, leaving only the white borders. This made it have a neater look overall.
