establishing shot
provides an overview of the setting from afar so the audience can identify with the location. its helps set the mood, a sunny day will connote happiness while a storm would be anger.

long shot/ wide shot
it shows the subject within their surrounding location. its helps set the scene with the characters in their settings.

extreme long shot
the shot is taken from a very far distance to the point where you cant make out the subjects in the shot.

full shot
a shot that shows the entire object and subject

medium long shot
used to enhance the surroundings in a shot since only the head and body above the knees are shown.

medium shot
shows the subject from the top of their head to the waist. showing a common amount of background.

medium close up
shows the subject from the shoulder/chest area to the top of the head. this shot helps the audience see the emotions/facial expressions as well as the background.

close up
a shot taking a close range making it more personal.

extreme close up
a close up that focuses on a specific object telling you its important. it is much more intense than a close up normally showing a subjects eye.

dutch angle
a shot that is taken at a slight angle/tilt. tends to add tension or phycological trauma in the subject.


high angle
where the camera looks down on the subject. can make the subject look vulnerable or powerless.

low angle
a shot from anywhere bellow the eye line looking up. this makes the subject look strong and powerful.
